Peru continues to shine in global tourism, earning three major accolades at the 2024 World Travel Awards. The country stands out as a global leader in culture and gastronomy while reaffirming the unmatched allure of Machu Picchu as a unique destination.
The Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Export and Tourism (PromPerú) proudly announced that the country has been named the "World's Leading Culinary Destination" for the twelfth time and the "World's Leading Cultural Destination" for the sixth time. Additionally, the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu, located in the Cusco region, was once again recognized as the "World's Leading Tourist Attraction," also for the sixth time.
Known as the "Oscars of Tourism," these awards highlight the unwavering dedication of Peruvians to preserving and showcasing the country’s cultural, natural, and culinary wealth to the world. Beyond its status as a world wonder, Machu Picchu also stands out as the first tourist destination to achieve international carbon-neutral certification.
Culture and gastronomy as cornerstones of identity
Peru’s recognition as a culinary leader is unsurprising, as its cuisine has become a global emblem. Iconic dishes like ceviche, causa limeña, and lomo saltado, combined with native ingredients such as quinoa, potatoes, and ají, represent a perfect blend of ancestral traditions and contemporary creativity.
Culturally, the country continues to serve as a model for preserving and promoting its heritage. From the remnants of pre-Columbian civilizations to unique celebrations like the Inti Raymi, Peru offers visitors a one-of-a-kind journey through its rich history and traditions.
Adding to these achievements, Peru’s official tourism website, Peru.travel, was awarded "Latin America’s Best Tourism Authority Website" at the 2024 World Travel Tech Awards.
