If you want to see Peru’s biggest “wow” moments and feel the real culture along the way, this 12-day journey is made for you. You’ll start on the coast in Lima, fly over the mysterious Nazca Lines, cruise near sea lions and penguins in Paracas, and ride dune buggies across the Huacachina desert, one of those days you’ll talk about for years.
Then it’s time for the Andes: Cusco, the Sacred Valley, and the Short Inca Trail, the classic way to arrive at Machu Picchu, walking in through the Sun Gate for that first unforgettable view from above. After your guided Machu Picchu tour, you’ll hike Rainbow Mountain + the Red Valley, and finish in the south with a peaceful (and beautiful) finale on Lake Titicaca, visiting the Uros Floating Islands and Taquile.
With TreXperience, everything is organized in a smart, comfortable way, reliable transport, hand-picked hotels, timed tickets, expert local guides, and a plan that makes sense (coast first, then altitude). You just enjoy Peru while we handle the details.

Peru Itinerary 12 Days Lima Cusco Puno - FAQs
Is this trip private or small group?
It’s designed as a guided program with shared services. If you want privacy, we can arrange a private version—just ask.
Do I need hiking experience for the Short Inca Trail?
No technical experience is needed, but you should be comfortable with a full day of walking on uneven paths and stairs. If you can do a long walk at home, you can do this hike.
Will I arrive at Machu Picchu through the Sun Gate?
Yes—on Day 7 you hike the Short Inca Trail and enter with the classic Sun Gate arrival (weather permitting).
Can I add Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain?
Yes, but permits are limited and must be booked far in advance. Ask early so we can check availability for your dates.
What’s the toughest day physically?
Rainbow Mountain is the most demanding because of the altitude. The Short Inca Trail is also a full hiking day, but at a lower altitude than Rainbow Mountain.
Are meals included?
Breakfasts are included at the hotels. Several lunches/dinners are included on key days (Sacred Valley, Short Inca Trail, Rainbow Mountain, tourist bus day, and Lake Titicaca day), exactly as listed in the itinerary.
What should I pack for different climates?
Bring layers. Lima and Paracas can be mild, Cusco mornings can be cold, Machu Picchu is warmer and humid, and Rainbow Mountain is cold and windy.
Is the Ballestas Islands tour safe?
Yes. You travel with a regulated boat operator and safety equipment. Sea conditions can affect the ride, but tours operate under local rules.
Will I have phone signal on the Short Inca Trail?
Signal is limited on the trail. In Aguas Calientes and Cusco you’ll have normal coverage and Wi-Fi at most hotels.
What time do we arrive back to Cusco after Machu Picchu?
Usually around 7:30 p.m. on Day 8, depending on train schedules and transfer timing.
