Luxury Machu Picchu Tour 2 Days Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco – Chinchero – Moray – Maras Salt Mines – Urubamba – Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes

We’ll pick you up from your hotel in Cusco around 7:00 a.m. and head into the Sacred Valley with your guide. From the start, this day is designed to feel clear and relaxed, even though you’ll see some of the best places in the region.

Your first stop is Chinchero, a beautiful Andean town where Inca history and living culture come together. You’ll visit the archaeological site and then meet local artisans at a women-led weaving coop, where you’ll see how wool is spun, dyed with natural plants, and woven by hand. It’s one of the most personal and meaningful cultural stops in the Valley.

Next, you’ll continue to Moray, famous for its circular terraces set into a natural bowl in the mountains. It’s one of those places that looks almost unreal in person, and your guide will explain why it was so important for the Incas.

From there, you’ll visit the Maras Salt Mines, a hillside of thousands of salt pools that shine in the sunlight. Local families still harvest salt here using the same traditional method, and the view is truly unique.

After the morning visits, you’ll enjoy a relaxed lunch in Urubamba, right in the heart of the Sacred Valley, good food and a comfortable break before the afternoon.

Later, you’ll explore Ollantaytambo, one of the most impressive Inca fortresses in Peru. Massive stone blocks, sweeping terraces, and a living Inca town below make this place unforgettable. Your guide will take you through the site with clear storytelling and time for photos.

In the evening, you’ll board the train to Aguas Calientes. Once you arrive, you’ll check into your 4-star hotel, settle in, and enjoy dinner at the hotelmm .a calm, comfortable finish to a full and beautiful day.

  • Duration: Full day tour
  • Meals: Lunch + dinner included
  • Accommodation: 4-star hotel in Aguas Calientes

Day 2: Machu Picchu – Return to Cusco

Today is the main event. After breakfast at your hotel, you’ll take one of the early buses up to Machu Picchu. At the entrance, you’ll show your ticket and your original passport.

Inside, your guide will lead a 2.5 hour guided tour on the best circuit available for your date. You’ll visit the most important areas allowed by your route, viewpoints, terraces, temples, and key structures, while learning the story of how Machu Picchu was built and why it matters. Your guide keeps the experience clear, engaging, and easy to follow.

After the guided visit, you’ll enjoy an exclusive lunch at Tinkuy restaurant near Machu Picchu, right by the entrance area. This is one of the biggest luxury upgrades: you can take a real break and enjoy the moment without rushing down to town immediately.

Later, you’ll take the bus back to Aguas Calientes, then board the Vistadome Observatory train for the return journey. This train offers large panoramic windows and excellent daytime views of the landscape. When you arrive in Ollantaytambo, your private driver will be waiting to take you back to your hotel in Cusco.

  • Duration: 2.5 hours
  • Meals: Breakfast + Tinkuy restaurant lunch included
  • Transportation: Bus + train + private transfer

2 Day Machu Picchu Tour from Cusco - Travel Information

Tickets & Availability (Machu Picchu + Trains)

Machu Picchu tickets are sold by circuit and time slot, and trains can sell out too, especially in peak season. Booking early gives you the best options for Circuit 2, good entry times, and the best train schedules.

Passport Requirements

Your Machu Picchu ticket must match your passport exactly. Please do not book using nicknames or shortened names. You must carry your original passport and show it at entry.

Pickup, Timing, and Smooth Logistics

This tour is built to feel easy: we pick you up at your hotel, manage the timing at each stop, and keep the day flowing naturally. Exact schedules can vary slightly depending on train times and official entry slots.

Altitude & Comfort

Cusco and parts of the Sacred Valley are at higher altitude. Most travelers do great with a steady pace, hydration, and a calm first day. Machu Picchu is lower than Cusco, which many people find more comfortable.

Weather & Seasons

Weather in the Andes can change fast: sun, wind, and rain can happen in the same day.
In general:

  • Wet season: November to March
  • Dry season: April to October
Pack light layers and include rain protection year-round.

Machu Picchu Circuits + Optional Mountain Hikes

Your tour includes Machu Picchu entry on the best available circuit for your date/time. We aim for Circuit 2 when possible. If it’s sold out, we reserve the best official alternative (Circuit 1 or Circuit 3) and plan the guided visit around it.
Optional hikes (advance booking required, separate ticket):

  • Huayna Picchu Mountain (ticket required)
  • Machu Picchu Mountain (ticket required)
  • You can hike only one of these per visit, depending on availability.

Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu Luxury Tour 2 days - FAQs

Is this tour difficult?

Not really. It’s mostly sightseeing with normal walking at ruins and viewpoints. There are stairs and uneven stone paths, but we keep a comfortable pace and take breaks.

Why stay overnight in Aguas Calientes?

Because it makes everything easier. You finish Day 1 calmly, sleep well, and start Machu Picchu day without rushing from Cusco early in the morning.

What Machu Picchu circuit will I get?

We book the best circuit available for your date/time. We aim for Circuit 2 when possible. If it’s sold out, we book the best official alternative (Circuit 1 or Circuit 3).

Can I add Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain?

Yes—if tickets are available for your date. These are separate permits and must be booked in advance. You can add only one extra hike per visit.

What if Circuit 2 isn’t available?

No problem. Machu Picchu tickets are limited per circuit and time slot. If Circuit 2 is sold out, we reserve the best official alternative and adjust the guided visit so you still have an excellent experience.

What time do we return to Cusco on Day 2?

It depends on the train schedule, but evening return is common. We confirm your exact timing once tickets are secured.

Do we go to Aguas Calientes by car?

No. You travel by road through the Sacred Valley to Ollantaytambo, then take the train to Aguas Calientes.

Can I end the tour in Ollantaytambo instead of Cusco?

In many cases, yes. Let us know in advance and we’ll arrange the best drop-off plan based on your train schedule.

Is this a private tour?

This tour has a small-group feel and door-to-door service. Private service is available on request, depending on date and availability.

Is tipping required?

Tipping is optional and always at your discretion. If you’d like guidance on what’s customary for guides and drivers, we can explain during the trip.
