Luxury Sacred Valley & Machu Picchu Tour - 2 Days Itinerary
Day 1: Cusco – Chinchero – Moray – Maras Salt Mines – Sacred Valley – Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes
We’ll pick you up from your hotel in Cusco around 7:00 a.m., and your professional guide will be with you throughout this beautiful 2-day journey. After a scenic drive of about 40 minutes, we arrive in Chinchero, where you’ll explore the archaeological site and its charming colonial church. You’ll also visit a women-led weaving center run by local artisans from Chinchero and nearby villages, where you’ll see how wool is spun, dyed with natural plants, and woven by hand using ancient techniques. It is a warm and meaningful cultural experience, and you can also support local women by buying handmade pieces directly from them.
Next, continue to Moray, the giant circular terraces that many believe the Incas used as an agricultural laboratory. From there, visit the impressive Maras Salt Mines, where thousands of salt pools cover the steep mountainside. Local families have worked these salt pans since pre-Inca times, and the views are unlike anywhere else in the Sacred Valley.
Around midday, enjoy a scenic picnic-style lunch in the heart of the Sacred Valley, freshly prepared by our talented chefs using local ingredients. It is the perfect moment to slow down, relax, and enjoy the landscape before the afternoon part of the journey.
Later, explore Ollantaytambo, one of the most impressive Inca sites in Peru. Walk through the archaeological site, admire its massive stone terraces, and enjoy the beauty of the old Inca town below. Afterward, head to the train station and board the train to Aguas Calientes, usually arriving around 5:00 p.m., depending on the train schedule.
Once you arrive, we’ll take you to your 4-star hotel in Aguas Calientes, such as Tierra Viva or similar. You’ll have free time to enjoy the hotel, visit the hot springs, walk around town, or simply rest before dinner. Dinner at the hotel is included, giving you a calm and comfortable end to a full and memorable day.
- Duration: Full-day Sacred Valley experience
- Meals: Picnic-style lunch + hotel dinner included
- Accommodation: 4-star hotel in Aguas Calientes (Tierra Viva or similar)
- Guide: Professional bilingual guide with you throughout the 2-day tour
Day 2: Machu Picchu – Aguas Calientes – Ollantaytambo – Cusco
After breakfast at your hotel, you’ll take one of the early buses up to Machu Picchu. This is one of the biggest advantages of staying overnight in Aguas Calientes: you get an easier start and a more relaxed visit. At the entrance, you’ll show your ticket and your original passport before beginning the guided tour.
Inside the citadel, your guide will lead a 2.5-hour guided visit on the best available circuit for your date. You’ll explore the most important areas allowed on your route, including viewpoints, terraces, temples, and ceremonial spaces, while learning the story of the Incas in a clear, engaging, and easy-to-follow way.
After the tour, enjoy an exclusive lunch at Tinkuy Restaurant, located at the Belmond Sanctuary Lodge near the entrance to Machu Picchu. This is one of the premium touches that makes the experience feel special, giving you time to relax and enjoy the moment instead of rushing straight back to town.
Later, take the bus back down to Aguas Calientes. Depending on your train time, you may have some free time to explore the town, visit the local craft market, or pick up a few souvenirs before the return journey.
In the afternoon, board the Vistadome Observatory train back to Ollantaytambo. With its large panoramic windows, observatory car, snacks, live music, and onboard show, the ride itself becomes part of the experience. When you arrive in Ollantaytambo, our private transportation will be waiting to take you directly back to your hotel in Cusco.

Luxury Machu Picchu Tour 2 Days - Packing List
This is a comfortable 2-day tour with an overnight stay in a hotel, so there is no need for trekking gear or heavy luggage. The best way to travel is light and simple. Since train companies may have luggage limits, we recommend bringing a small carry-on and a daypack with just the essentials for the trip.
Essentials

What to put in the Daypack?
You do not need to carry all your luggage during the tour. You can leave your main suitcase at your hotel in Cusco, or use TreXperience’s free luggage storage if that is more convenient for you.
For the train to Machu Picchu, we recommend bringing only a small carry-on. This bag will travel with you during the Sacred Valley tour and is all you need for your overnight stay in Aguas Calientes.
Once you arrive in Aguas Calientes, you can leave your carry-on at the hotel and take only a light daypack to Machu Picchu. This makes the visit easier, more comfortable, and much more enjoyable.

Travel Information
Arriving in Cusco before the tour
We strongly recommend arriving in Cusco at least one day before your tour starts. This gives you time to rest after your flight, settle in, and begin the trip feeling more comfortable and relaxed.
Luggage for the train
For this tour, it is best to travel light. Since train companies may have luggage limits, we recommend bringing only a small carry-on or soft overnight bag, plus a daypack for your visit to Machu Picchu.
What to do with your main suitcase
You do not need to bring your full luggage on this tour. Most travelers leave their main suitcase at their hotel in Cusco, or use TreXperience’s luggage storage, and travel with only what they need for one night.
Hotel stay in Aguas Calientes
Your overnight stay is in a comfortable 4-star hotel in Aguas Calientes, such as Tierra Viva or similar. This makes the trip much easier, since you can rest well and start your Machu Picchu visit the next morning without rushing from Cusco.
Meals included during the trip
The tour includes a picnic-style lunch in the Sacred Valley on Day 1, dinner at your hotel, breakfast the next morning, and lunch near Machu Picchu on Day 2. This helps keep the trip smooth and comfortable from start to finish.
Restrooms and comfort stops
Restrooms are available at several points during the journey, although not at every stop. Your guide manages the day carefully and plans comfort stops at the right times, so the experience feels easy and well-paced.
Cash, cards, and personal spending
You will not need much cash for the tour itself, but it is a good idea to carry a little for snacks, drinks, souvenirs, or personal purchases in Chinchero or Aguas Calientes. Cards are accepted in many places, but not everywhere.
Phone signal, Wi-Fi, and charging
Phone signal is usually good in towns, but it can be weak between stops or on parts of the route. Most travelers do fine with normal phone use, and hotel Wi-Fi is usually enough for messages and basic travel needs. A power bank is always a smart idea.
Photos, drones, and site rules
You can take plenty of photos during the trip, but some sites have rules about where and how equipment can be used. Drones are generally not allowed at Machu Picchu, and your guide will help you follow the site rules so your visit stays smooth and stress-free.
Free time in Aguas Calientes
Depending on your schedule, you may have some free time in Aguas Calientes to enjoy the town, visit the local market, relax at the hotel, or go to the hot springs. It is a nice extra part of the trip and gives you time to slow down and enjoy the atmosphere.

That is completely fine. This is not a race, and your guide can keep a comfortable pace, allow short breaks, and help make the visit feel easier and more enjoyable.
Do I need travel insurance for this tour?
Travel insurance is not required, but we strongly recommend it. It can be very helpful for flight delays, medical issues, lost luggage, or unexpected changes before or during your trip.
