These stories highlight how we turn a hike into a memorable adventure, and we take pride in knowing we've made a lasting impact on those who trust us.
We had the most fantastic experience on the Lares Trek! 🏔️Nilton our guide was brilliant, he was so knowledgable about everything, funny and very supportive on the hike whatever our pace. The rest of the team was also brilliant, our chef Juvenal made incredible food every day, and even let us help make a traditional Peruvian dish. 🥘 There was only 4 of us in the group and we didn’t see anyone else except locals which was amazing. On our first day we were picked up from Cusco, and then taken to some ruins and for a dip in the Lares hot springs. We then hiked in the afternoon to our first campsite. On day 2 we had a big day of hiking up to condor pass which was hard work but very rewarding. After we got to the second campsite we got to visit a local family and learn about their way of life, which was an amazing experience. It was quite cold at night but Nilton and his team kept us warm with extra blankets, tea and hot water bottles! On day 3 we finished the trek, visited the salt mines and then explored Ollantaytambo before heading off on the train to Aguas Calientes for a lovely nights sleep in the hotel. On our final day we got up early to see the gorgeous Machu Picchu, where Nilton gave us a fantastic tour! We got some free time to go to the hot springs before our last lunch all together before heading back to Cusco. This was such a fantastic experience that I would recommend to anyone, especially if you want to learn about Peruvian communities and go off the beaten track. Thank you so much to Nilton, Juvenal, Oscar & Jaim 🇵🇪❤️
View full reviewA wonderful 4-day trek. Our guide Nilton was superb - caring, patient, informative, encouraging and inspiring. Day One involves a visit to hot springs which were nearly empty, setting us up for the ascent to the first camp. Several of us were still struggling with altitude sickness but Nilton was very patient. Arriving at camp one we were welcomed by our tents already set up and dinner cooking, next to a beautiful lake. Although both nights were freezing cold we were provided with excellent tents and sleeping bags and blankets. Day two was the hardest trek, and again Nilton was patient with one of our group struggling with breathing, but we made it to the glorious Condor Pass. At each stop our chef Juvenal provided the most amazing meals, as if from nowhere! So much food, all of it original and authentically Peruvian. At the end of day two we visited an authentic Peruvian home which was fascinating. The third day was a steady descent for about 3 hours followed by lunch, visit to the fascinating salt mines, and then bus and train to Machu Picchu town. The final day was an early start to get up to visit Machu Picchu, and again Nilton gave us amazing history and information about the site. All in all a trip of a lifetime. Heartily recommended, but make sure you prepare for some climbing and acclimatise to the altitude before you start! Thanks to Nilton and all his team.
View full reviewWhat an experience… this trekking was amazing! Challenging, but so worthwhile. Amazing views and such impressive Inca sites. And TreXperience nailed it! The whole trip went super smooth, everything was well prepared and explained. The team did an amazing job from beginning to end. Good tents, great food and positive spirits. They went the extra mile for people who were struggling a bit or for the ones who were very fit. Waking up with hot tea and warm water in the afternoons to freshen up made it feel like glamping. Thanks so much to our guides Miquel and Yovani for supporting us. We have made memories we will never forget and will definitively recommend TreXperience!

Do I need prior hiking experience for the Ausangate and Rainbow Mountain tours?

Rainbow Mountain is about 5,200 meters (17,060 feet) high, and Ausangate is even higher at 6,384 meters (20,945 feet). The altitude can definitely be an issue, especially if you're not used to it. You might experience headaches or shortness of breath, so it’s a good idea to spend a few days in Cusco to acclimate before heading out.
How should I prepare for acclimatization before the trek?
Spend at least 2 to 3 days in Cusco or another high-altitude spot to let your body adjust. Drink plenty of water, avoid alcohol, and eat light meals. Some people also take medication like Diamox to help prevent altitude sickness, but make sure to check with your doctor first.

Just finished the 4 day lares trek with TreXperience, it was a really special and unique experience to see the local lifestyle and the scenery was beautiful. Our tour guide Nilton was very attentive, brought so much positive energy and had an amazing amount of knowledge about everything- we learnt a huge amount! He went above and beyond to make sure everyone was happy and constantly tailored the experience to make it the best possible for everyone. He was very patient and supported us to go at our own pace. Our chef, Juvenal, cooked the most delicious meals every night and there was so much variety. Some of the best food I’ve ever eaten! I am amazed at the quality of everything on this trip and the hard work of everyone including the porters Oscar and Jaime! We even got to do a cooking class with the chef on the last night. One of my favourite experiences was visiting one of the locals houses in the mountains on day 2 and learning about their daily lifestyle. I feel very grateful to have been part of this experience. Thank you to everyone who made this possible! I really recommend this trek for anyone who wants an authentic perspective of life in the andes.
