You will also need a small, comfortable daypack to carry your daily essentials during the Cusco City Tour, Sacred Valley visit, Inca Trail, and Machu Picchu tour.

Essentials
The following items are essential for your Luxury Inca Trail package. Keep important documents and daily-use items in your daypack.

What to Wear?
For Cusco, the Sacred Valley, the Inca Trail, and Machu Picchu, dressing in layers is the best choice. Weather can change quickly as you move from the city to the valley, high mountain passes, cloud forest, and Machu Picchu.

What to Pack in Your Daypack
Use a 25–35 L backpack with a rain cover. Larger bags are not permitted inside Machu Picchu and must be stored in lockers; the rule is based on the bag’s size, not only capacity.
Any extra belongings can be stored at your hotel or in the TreXperience storeroom in Cusco.

What to Put in the Duffel Bag
TreXperience provides a duffel bag for the Inca Trail, and our porters will carry it during the trek. The duffel bag must weigh a maximum of 10 kg / 22 lb. Duffel bags are issued before the trek and will be available at each campsite.

Luxury Inca Trail 7 Days - Travel Information
This luxury package combines three important parts of the Cusco region: the historic city of Cusco, the Sacred Valley, and the Classic Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. It is designed to give you cultural context, better acclimatization, and a more complete journey before reaching the citadel through the Sun Gate.
The Inca Trail follows part of the ancient Qhapaq Ñan, the great Andean road system built and expanded by the Incas. This trek covers a little over 42 km / 26 mi and is one of the most celebrated ways to arrive at Machu Picchu.
Who is this 7-day luxury package best for?
This tour is ideal for travelers who want the full experience: Cusco, the Sacred Valley, the Classic Inca Trail, and Machu Picchu, all arranged with private service, handpicked hotels, luxury camping, and premium logistics.
It is also a strong option if you want better acclimatization before the trek. Instead of starting the Inca Trail immediately after arriving in Cusco, you spend time exploring the city and the Sacred Valley first.
Cusco and Sacred Valley before the trek
The first two days help you understand the culture and landscape before hiking the Inca Trail. You visit Cusco’s most important sites and then explore the Sacred Valley, including Chinchero, Moray, Maras, and Ollantaytambo.
For more background before your trip, you can read our Cusco travel guide and Sacred Valley travel guide.
Qhapaq Ñan and Inca Trail history
The Inca Trail is part of the Qhapaq Ñan, the great road network that connected the Inca Empire across mountains, valleys, and sacred places. Cusco was the heart of this system and the political and ceremonial capital of the Inca world.
For official information, read about the Qhapaq Ñan, Andean Road System.
Inca Trail length and altitude
The Classic Inca Trail covers approximately 42 km / 26 mi. You will walk through valleys, mountain passes, cloud forest, and archaeological sites before arriving at Machu Picchu through the Sun Gate.
The highest point is Dead Woman’s Pass, at 4,215 m / 13,829 ft. This is the most challenging section because of the altitude and the long uphill climb. For general health guidance, review the CDC’s high-altitude travel advice.
Inca Trail permits
Hiking the Inca Trail requires an official permit issued with your passport information. Permits are limited and cannot be transferred to another traveler.
We recommend booking early, especially for high season. You can check general information on our Inca Trail permits and availability page.
Luxury camping experience
The luxury camping setup is one of the main highlights of this tour. Camps include spacious glamping-style tents, queen or twin luxury camping cots, warm blankets, pillows, sleeping bags, hot showers, towels, private toilets, a dining tent, camp tables, chairs, and massage service after hiking days.
This is still a real high-altitude trek, but the comfort, food, and camp details make the experience more enjoyable and restorative.
Food and selected drinks on the trail
Meals on the trek are prepared by professional trekking chefs using fresh local ingredients. You will enjoy breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, tea time, and warm drinks during the Inca Trail.
During lunch, selected refreshing drinks are included. In the evening, after the hike, special camp drinks are served before or during dinner. Drinks not listed in the itinerary and personal expenses are not included.
Sun Gate arrival
The Inca Trail finishes at Inti Punku, the Sun Gate, where you get your first panoramic view of Machu Picchu. This entrance is one of the most emotional moments of the trek and is reserved for hikers arriving through the Inca Trail route.
Machu Picchu circuits and tickets
This experience usually includes access through the Inca Trail arrival route and a guided visit through the lower central area of Machu Picchu. The exact circuit depends on official ticket availability and regulations at the time of booking.
You can review the official Machu Picchu circuits and routes or read our Machu Picchu tickets and circuits guide.
Optional hikes: Huayna Picchu and Machu Picchu Mountain
Huayna Picchu Mountain and Machu Picchu Mountain can be requested as optional add-ons, but they are not normally compatible with the standard schedule of this 7-day package.
These hikes require special tickets, fixed entry times, and enough time inside Machu Picchu before the return train. If one of these hikes is important to you, contact us before booking so we can review possible itinerary adjustments.
Machu Picchu as a protected site
Machu Picchu is both a cultural and natural protected area. Your guide will help you follow the assigned route, respect entry times, and protect the site by staying on marked paths.
You can learn more from the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu protected area page or the UNESCO World Heritage Site page for Machu Picchu.
Weather
Weather changes quickly between Cusco, the Sacred Valley, the high passes of the Inca Trail, cloud forest, and Machu Picchu. You should be ready for sun, rain, cold nights, wind, and humid conditions.
- Dry season: April to October, usually clearer skies and cooler nights.
- Wet season: November to March, greener landscapes and more frequent rain.
The Inca Trail is usually closed in February for maintenance. You can also check the official Machu Picchu weather forecast before traveling.
Responsible travel and porter welfare
TreXperience is a 100% Peruvian local tour operator. We believe luxury also means responsibility: fair treatment of porters, proper gear, good food, safe working conditions, and respect for the people who make the trek possible.
Please stay on marked paths, follow your guide’s instructions, avoid littering, and respect archaeological sites and local communities along the trail.
