Inca Trail Frequently Asked Questions

Is one day enough to see Machu Picchu?

Yes. With Circuit 1, you'll have access to the main viewpoints and enjoy panoramic views of Machu Picchu. For more time or a second visit, you can stay overnight and book Circuit 2 or 3.

How fit do I need to be?

You should be in reasonable physical shape. The trail has some uphill sections and altitude, but most travelers complete it at a steady pace without issues.

What if I have trouble with the altitude?

Spend at least two days in Cusco before the hike to acclimate to the altitude. Stay hydrated, eat light, and avoid alcohol before your trek.

Can I book last minute?

Not recommended. Permits for the Inca Trail 1 Day often sell out, especially in high season. Book a few months in advance.

What happens if it rains?

The tour runs in all weather. Bring a poncho or rain jacket, especially during the wet season. The scenery is still spectacular.

Can children join?

Older children who enjoy hiking and are comfortable with altitude usually do well. Contact us to discuss your family’s needs.

Are tips expected?

Tips are voluntary but appreciated. They are a nice way to thank your guide and driver for their hard work.

Should I bring extra cash?

Yes, bring some cash for snacks, tips, or small purchases in Aguas Calientes or along the way.
