To celebrate the work of professional tour guides, the World Federation of Tourist Guide Associations (WFTGA) established International Guide Day or the International Day of Tourist Guides, which is commemorated on February 21st every year.

"Since the 1990s, guide associations have offered free tours and events to the local population to showcase our skills within our communities," states the WFTGA. The main goal of the WFTGA is to foster, promote, and ensure that tourist guides are recognized as true ambassadors of their respective regions.

Additionally, the organization has members from over 70 countries, representing more than 200,000 tourist guides. Peru, of course, is part of this vital organization with tour guides from all over the country.

Why is Tourist Guide Day celebrated on February 21st?

Since 1990, International Tourist Guide Day has stood as an annual date commemorating the foundation of the World Federation of Professional Tourist Guides, celebrated in Austria on February 21st, 1985.
