The Provincial Municipality of Cusco, through its events company EMUFEC , together with the Metropolitan Municipality of Lima, will lead the national launch of Inti Raymi 2026 in Lima’s Plaza de Armas this Sunday, March 21. On a night filled with color, Andean music, and traditional dances, the capital’s main square will welcome the Inca ruler, along with his wife, the Qoya, and his royal entourage, in a unique performance full of history and tradition. The Inca and his high command will invite the public to attend the Inti Raymi ceremony, which will take place on June 24 of this year at the Inca fortress of Sacsayhuamán in the city of Cusco.

In this way, Inti Raymi, the flagship event of Cusco’s anniversary celebrations, will once again serve as modern Cusco’s calling card to the world. It is, after all, the national festival that attracts the largest number of international tourists.

We invite you to be part of this celebration. Tickets for the main ceremony on June 24 will go on sale a few months in advance through EMUFEC official website. Stay tuned!

What is Inti Raymi?

The Inti Raymi is a modern reenactment of an important Inca ceremony, revived in 1944 by Cusco writer and actor Faustino Espinoza Navarro and intellectual Humberto Vidal Unda. The reenactment takes place every year on June 24 as part of the anniversary celebrations of the city of Cusco, the former capital of the Inca Empire.

With the participation of hundreds of dancers, actors, and local volunteers, the ceremony takes place at three important sites: Coricancha, the former Inca Temple of the Sun and now the Convent of Santo Domingo; Cusco’s Plaza de Armas; and the Inca fortress of Sacsayhuaman, which still stands today.

By the way, if you want visit the places mentioned preceding lines, you can take our Cusco city tour and prepare yourself to enjoy the Inti Raymi.
