Holy Week in Cusco 2025 will be the scene of the procession of the Lord of the Tremors on Holy Monday, April 14; the pilgrimage of the 7 churches on Holy Thursday, April 17; and the tasting of the 12 dishes on Holy Friday, April 18.
The imperial city will witness one of its most important religious manifestations in Peru with the celebration of Holy Week 2025, highlighting the traditional procession of the Lord of the Tremors, Cusco's sworn patron saint, this Monday, April 14. As every year, the figure of the “Taytacha de los Temblores” will leave in procession from the Cathedral of Cusco, going through the main streets of the historic center of the city, while he is caressed by a rain of ñucchu flowers (native flower of Cusco), symbol of blood and sacrifice. From the balconies and sidewalks, thousands of Cusqueños, visitors, and parishioners will fervently raise prayers while watching the sacred image pass by, uniting faith and culture in a single expression.
- 02:15 pm: The Lord of the Tremors will be taken on a platform from the Cathedral of Cusco to begin the procession and will offer his first blessing to the faithful at the main door of the basilica.
- 05:30 pm: The sacred image will give its second blessing at the corner of Mesón de la Estrella and Marqués streets.
- 07:30 pm: The third blessing will take place at the corner of Av. El Sol and Portal de Mantas
- 08:30 pm: The last blessing will be at the same door of the Cathedral Basilica of Cusco, moments before the entrance of the image to the interior of the temple.
The tradition of the Lord of the Tremors dates back to 1650, when, after a violent earthquake, the image was carried on a platform by the citizens who cried out for the end of the tremor. Since then, every Easter Monday, Cusco stops to remember that historic moment and renew its collective faith.
Holy Thursday and Good Friday in Cusco
In addition to the procession, during the holy week, there will be various masses, vigils, and cultural activities in different temples of the city. The pilgrimage to the 7 temples on Thursday, April 17, stands out. In it, the churches of La Compañía, San Francisco, La Merced, Santa Clara, San Pedro, San Blas and the Cathedral Basilica of Cusco are visited in an act of reflection, faith, and tradition. On Good Friday, April 18, families gather at lunchtime to commemorate the last supper of Christ, tasting the 12 dishes. On Easter Sunday, April 20, the parishioners prepare with ñucchu petals to watch the passing of the holy sepulcher.
- As you can see, Cusco is an ancient city of faith, tradition, and culture.
