Peru gains ground as a nature destination: visits to protected areas grew more than 7% during Holy Week

During the last long Holy holiday, more than 131 thousand people chose to visit the country's natural protected areas (ANP), representing an increase of 7.66% compared to the same period last year.

The data was shared by SERNANP, the entity in charge of caring for these spaces, which celebrates not only the growth of tourism, but also the positive impact it has on local communities. According to its head, José Carlos Nieto, the objective is clear: to turn the ANP into Peru's natural destinations par excellence, strengthening conservation and supporting the economy of nearby populations.

Which were the most visited natural areas in Peru?

  • Paracas National Reserve: 28,387 visitors.
  • Ballestas Islands: 27,647 visitors
  • Pampa de Ayacucho Historic Sanctuary: 24,074 visitors
  • Huascarán National Park: 14,115 visitors
  • Huayllay National Sanctuary: 11,464 visitors

In Ica alone, more than 56,000 people visited Paracas and the Ballestas Islands, consolidating this region as a top destination for Peruvian ecotourism.

Tourism that conserves and transforms

Currently, more than 400 local enterprises collaborate with SERNANP in 40 protected areas open to tourism, offering authentic, responsible and quality experiences. Thanks to this joint work, Peru maintains 96% of its ANP in excellent condition, guaranteeing intact landscapes, amazing biodiversity, and a sustainable future for all.
