Travelers heading to Peru will soon be greeted by one of the most impressive airport terminals on the continent. The new Jorge Chávez International Airport is positioning itself to become the most advanced and expansive air hub in Latin America.
With a cutting-edge design and capacity to welcome up to 30 million visitors per year, this modern terminal is already drawing attention from major global airlines eager to include Peru in their routes.
Ricardo Acosta, president of the Peruvian Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies (Apavit), affirmed that the Lima Jorge Chávez Airport is becoming a game-changer for regional tourism and aviation. He emphasized that its layout was designed to ensure comfort, order, and an excellent experience for every traveler. Beyond its sleek architecture, the new terminal integrates world-class technology, placing it at the forefront of Latin American airports.
Officially opened its doors on June 1, the new Jorge Chávez Airport will feature a broad array of traveler-friendly services, from restaurants and retail shops to compact hotels and relaxing lounge areas. Feedback gathered during its trial phase has already led to adjustments, ensuring a smooth start for operations.
For airlines, the airport offers a promising opportunity to expand. Acosta highlighted the increasing interest from carriers, especially those serving European routes, as demand for flights to Peru continues to grow. He believes the Jorge Chávez Airport will play a pivotal role in boosting connectivity and positioning Peru as a top destination in South America.
Chancay megaport strengthens Jorge Chavez Airport as a key logistics center
The significance of this infrastructure goes beyond tourism. The new terminal complements the recently opened mega port of Chancay, reinforcing Peru’s emergence as a key logistics center in the region. According to Acosta, both projects mark essential steps toward transforming the country into a strategic hub. While challenges like strengthening security remain, progress is evident.
Most importantly, Acosta noted, the Lima Jorge Chávez Airport serves as the first impression for many international visitors. “It’s our gateway,” he said. “And with this terminal, we’re offering travelers a remarkable introduction to Peru”.
