Peruvian destinations recognized in the Top 100 Green Destinations 2024:

  • Allpahuayo Mishana National Reserve (Loreto): Known for conserving endemic species and its valuable Amazon rainforest ecosystem.
  • Cavinzas Islands and Palomino Islets (Callao): Celebrated for their marine biodiversity and ecotourism practices that protect the natural surroundings.
  • Kuélap – Gocta (Amazonas): Its rich Inca history and breathtaking landscapes combine cultural heritage with natural conservation.
  • Los Órganos (Piura): Famous for its beaches and marine wildlife viewing, it promotes responsible coastal tourism.

Among these, Tingo María National Park stands out for receiving a gold-level certification, becoming the first Peruvian site to achieve this high level of international recognition. This milestone underscores Peru’s commitment to global sustainability standards, setting a precedent for other regional destinations.

Each of these locations has implemented sustainable practices in collaboration with the Vice Ministry of Tourism, the National Service of State-Protected Natural Areas (Sernanp), regional governments, the private sector, and local communities. Their initiatives include biodiversity conservation, environmental education, ecosystem protection, and promoting economic development in local communities.

The 2024 Green Destinations Story Awards ceremony will take place in Punta Arenas, Chile, from December 10 to 12. Representatives from these Peruvian destinations will share their stories, projects, and achievements in sustainability—a step further in positioning Peru as a leader in sustainable tourism across Latin America.

The inclusion of these five destinations in the Top 100 Green Destinations highlights Peru’s efforts to align its tourism offerings with principles of sustainability and environmental respect, promoting a tourism industry that looks to the future while preserving the country’s natural and cultural heritage.
