First, choose transportation that’s better for the environment. Use public transportation, ride a bike, or walk. If you have to use a car, try to share the ride with others to lower pollution per person.

For places to stay, pick hotels or lodgings that support sustainable practices. Look for places that manage their resources well, recycle, and have certifications showing they care for the environment.

Another tip is to reduce the use of plastic. Bring a reusable bottle and use biodegradable bags or utensils. You can also choose service providers that work to reduce plastic use.

It’s also very important to take care of natural resources. Use water and energy wisely. Turn off taps, lights, and electronics when not in use, and reuse towels and sheets for several nights.

Supporting local businesses is another great way to be a responsible tourist. It helps the local economy and respects the traditions of the area. Lastly, Pizarro recommends choosing formal tourism services to ensure the safety of both the traveler and the destination.
