On Tuesday, September 17, Minister Desilú León announced that through the National Copesco Plan, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism will develop two tourism investment projects worth over S/ 40 million.

Tourism in Tumbes will be strengthened

Both initiatives aim to boost domestic and inbound tourism in Tumbes. “Tourism plays a key role in regional development, creating jobs and generating significant economic activity. The Peruvian government is committed to ensuring that Tumbes remains a competitive tourist destination at the national level. That's why we are working on these important tourism projects, which also promote identity and pride,” said the head of Mincetur.

The first project will cost around S/ 26 million and involves work in Puerto Pizarro, including the creation of a tourist promenade, a rest area, and a scenic viewpoint. It will also feature a central plaza, as well as the construction of roads and pedestrian access. The intervention area covers 18,164.72 square meters and is expected to benefit 113,000 national and international tourists over the next 10 years.

The second project focuses on improving and expanding the tourist services at the Los Manglares de Tumbes National Sanctuary, with a budget exceeding S/ 13 million. This project will benefit 15,000 tourists and will be divided into three sectors: El Algarrobo, Isla Matapalo, and Gallegos.

At El Algarrobo, a pier will be built to allow tourists to travel to the other destinations, followed by the development of pedestrian and vehicular paths, interpretive trails, parking, and a service center for tourist assistance.

For Isla Matapalo and Gallegos, the project will include a pier and pedestrian access, along with rest areas, observation zones, and improvements to tourist security and surveillance posts.
