The World Travel Awards (WTA) is an international organization founded in 1993 that focuses on the worldwide tourist industry and serves as a quality standard for competitive enterprises in this sector. Every year, they reward excellence in all sectors of the tourism and hotel service industry.

During the 2023 gala ceremony, Peru was the first prize winner in the categories "Leading culinary destination" and "Leading cultural destination". This is Peru's eleventh nomination as a culinary destination and the country's third straight award in this category. Peru has one of the most highly valued gastronomies worldwide, once again recognized for its excellence by the prestigious organization, leaving behind regional competitors such as Argentina and Colombia and worldwide nominees such as Japan, Spain, France, Italy, and Thailand.

Likewise, this is the fifth time that Peru has won the award in the category of Best Cultural Destination in the World. Other nominees this year included Russia, China, Mexico, and India.

This recognition places Peru among the top tourism offers in the world, reflected in the visit of more than 1 million travelers a year, being its major attraction, Machu Picchu, one of the world's seven wonders.
