This december of 2023, Machu Picchu is celebrating its 40th anniversary as a UNESCO Global, Cultural, and Natural Heritage Site with conservation and cultural activities for visitors and locals.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) declared the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu as World Heritage in 1983. The designation was conferred to recognize the site's transcendence, highlighting its universal worth and the Inca civilization's legacy.
This year, Peru is celebrating its 40th anniversary with plenty of activities throughout December. The Peruvian Culture Ministry informed about the research, restoration, and conservation efforts to preserve the citadel to maintain this UNESCO status.
During that day, the local municipality of Machu Picchu held a ceremony and a civilian parade. Also, the Aguas Calientes town will host a cultural program of artistic presentations over the month.
