Starting September 27th, on World Tourism Day, the Maras Salt Mines, one of the most iconic destinations in the Sacred Valley, will begin offering night tours. This initiative aims to provide a different experience and attract more tourists, allowing them to enjoy a unique landscape illuminated by the moonlight.

During the night tours, visitors will witness the hard work carried out in the salt ponds under the moonlight, creating a magical atmosphere that few have had the chance to experience. "We want visitors to feel something different, to connect with the history and nature of this place especially," said Edwin Pizarro Huaman, a representative of Marsal.

The salt mines are undergoing preparations, including the installation of proper signage and the improvement of access routes, to ensure a safe and memorable experience.

The Maras Salt Mines

The Maras Salt Mines date back to pre-Inca times and have been a vital resource for local communities for centuries. These salt ponds, fed by an underground spring, continue to operate traditionally, producing high-quality salt that is valued both locally and internationally.

Extra Fact » The tour to the salt mines currently receives between 1,500 and 2,000 visitors daily, making it one of Cusco's top tourist attractions.
