Full Itinerary of the 7-Day Peru Tour

This carefully planned journey connects Peru’s coastal wildlife, desert landscapes, ancient cultures, Inca history, and Machu Picchu in one powerful week. The itinerary can also be customized according to your interests, travel style, and preferred level of service.

Day 1: Arrival in Lima - Afternoon City Tour

Welcome to Peru. Our representative will meet you at Lima airport and transfer you to your selected 3-star hotel in Miraflores. You will have time to check in, rest, and have lunch before beginning your first guided experience.

In the afternoon, meet your local guide and travel into Lima’s historic center. Visit Plaza San Martín and Plaza Mayor, surrounded by important colonial buildings such as the Government Palace, Lima Cathedral, and the Archbishop’s Palace.

Continue to San Francisco Monastery, known for its colonial architecture, historic library, and underground Catacombs. Your guide will explain how Lima grew from a pre-Hispanic settlement into one of the most important cities of colonial South America.

After the tour, return to your hotel in Miraflores. The evening is free to rest, enjoy the district’s restaurants, or walk near the coast on your own.

  • Meals: Not included
  • Duration: Half-day city tour
  • Accommodation: Selected 3-star hotel in Lima

Recommendations: A morning arrival in Lima is recommended. Bring comfortable walking shoes, a light jacket, sunscreen, water, and some extra money for personal expenses.

Day 2: Lima - Paracas - Ballestas Islands - Huacachina

After breakfast at your hotel, leave Lima and travel south along the Pacific coast toward Paracas. The drive takes approximately three hours, depending on traffic and road conditions.

Upon arrival, board a motorboat for the Ballestas Islands. Along the way, see the Candelabra, a large geoglyph carved into a coastal hillside. Continue around the rocky islands while looking for sea lions, Humboldt penguins, pelicans, cormorants, and other marine wildlife. Sightings depend on natural conditions and cannot be guaranteed.

After the boat excursion, continue to Huacachina, a small oasis surrounded by huge desert dunes. Check in at your selected 3-star hotel and prepare for one of the most fun moments of the trip.

Ride across the dunes in a buggy with an experienced local driver and stop at selected points to try sandboarding. As the light changes over the desert, enjoy wide views of the dunes before returning to the oasis.

  • Duration: Full day
  • Accommodation: Selected 3-star hotel in Ica
  • Activities: Coastal boat tour, wildlife observation, dune buggy, and sandboarding

Recommendations: Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, a windbreaker, water, and secure footwear. Keep cameras and phones protected from sand during the dune buggy tour.

Day 3: Nazca Lines Flight - Return to Lima

After breakfast, travel to the airfield used for your Nazca Lines flight. Check-in procedures include passport verification, safety instructions, and passenger weight checks required for aircraft balance.

Board the aircraft for a scenic flight above the desert. From the air, look for famous figures such as the whale, astronaut, monkey, hummingbird, condor, spider, and other geometric designs created across the Nazca landscape.

The exact route, flight time, aircraft, and visible figures may change because of weather, aviation conditions, or operational requirements. Your pilot will help identify the main geoglyphs from both sides of the aircraft whenever conditions allow.

After the flight, continue by comfortable tourist vehicle back to Lima. Upon arrival, check in at your selected 3-star hotel in Miraflores and enjoy the evening at leisure.

  • Meals: Breakfast at the hotel

Cusco is located at approximately 3,400 meters / 11,155 feet. Take some time to rest, drink water, and enjoy a light meal before beginning the afternoon tour.

Meet your local guide and explore the former capital of the Inca Empire. Visit the Plaza de Armas area and Qoricancha, once the most important temple dedicated to the sun.

Continue to Pisac, where terraces and archaeological structures rise above the valley. After the guided visit, explore Pisac Market before traveling to a selected restaurant for a buffet lunch.

In the afternoon, visit Moray, known for its circular terraces, and continue to the Maras Salt Mines, where thousands of salt pools cover the hillside and are still worked by local families.

Your final archaeological visit is Ollantaytambo, one of the best-preserved living Inca towns in Peru. Explore its terraces and temples before walking to the train station.

After leaving Machu Picchu, take the bus back to Aguas Calientes and enjoy lunch on your own. Collect your overnight bag and board the train to Ollantaytambo.

How the 7-day itinerary is paced

This is an active, well-organized itinerary designed for travelers who want to see Peru’s coast, desert, and Andes in one week. Several days include early departures, long road journeys, flights, trains, and guided tours.

The tour begins with airport pickup in Lima and ends with a transfer to Cusco airport. A morning arrival in Lima is recommended on Day 1 so you can join the afternoon city tour without rushing.

The one-way Lima-Cusco flight is included. The flight from Cusco to Lima or your next destination at the end of the tour is not included.

Lima and its historic center

Lima combines pre-Hispanic history, colonial architecture, modern neighborhoods, coastal views, and one of Latin America’s best-known food scenes. This tour focuses on the historic center, Plaza Mayor, San Francisco Monastery, and the Catacombs.

The Historic Centre of Lima is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can learn more through the UNESCO Historic Centre of Lima page.

Paracas, Ballestas Islands and Huacachina

The Ballestas Islands boat excursion is subject to sea conditions, port authority decisions, visibility, and wildlife activity. Marine animals live freely in their natural environment, so no specific sighting can be guaranteed.

The dune buggy ride in Huacachina is an adventure activity. Follow the driver’s safety instructions, keep your seat belt fastened, and protect cameras and phones from sand.

Read the official information about the Paracas National Reserve and the Ballestas Islands protected area.

Nazca Lines flight and aviation conditions

The Nazca Lines flight is subject to weather, visibility, air traffic, aviation regulations, passenger weight distribution, and aircraft availability. Delays or schedule changes may occur for safety reasons.

Each traveler must present a valid passport. The flight operator may assign seats according to aircraft balance, and the exact number of figures visible depends on the confirmed route and conditions.

Small aircraft turn in both directions to help passengers see the figures. Travelers who are sensitive to motion should eat lightly and consider suitable motion-sickness medication after consulting a healthcare professional.

The Lines and Geoglyphs of Nasca and Palpa are recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Learn more on the official UNESCO page.

Cusco and altitude acclimatization

Cusco is located at approximately 3,400 m / 11,155 ft. Altitude can affect travelers regardless of age or fitness, especially during the first hours after arrival.

Walk slowly, stay hydrated, eat light meals, and avoid excess alcohol. Tell your guide immediately if you develop a strong headache, dizziness, nausea, unusual weakness, or trouble breathing.

Explore more ideas in our Things to Do in Cusco guide. Travelers with medical concerns should speak with a healthcare professional and review the official CDC high-altitude guidance.

Sacred Valley sites and entrance tickets

The Sacred Valley section includes important cultural and archaeological stops such as Pisac, Moray, the Maras Salt Mines, and Ollantaytambo. The exact order may change because of traffic, train schedules, entrance times, or local conditions.

Some sites use the Cusco Tourist Ticket, while the Maras Salt Mines have a separate local admission system. The required entrance tickets listed in the itinerary are included in the package.

Learn more about the region in our Sacred Valley Guide. Official information about the Cusco Tourist Ticket is available through COSITUC.

Machu Picchu tickets, circuits and visitor rules

Machu Picchu visits follow official circuits, routes, entry times, and daily visitor limits. We first request Circuit 2, but the final route depends on availability when your reservation is confirmed.

You must carry the original passport used for your booking. The details on your entrance ticket must match the document presented at the checkpoint.

Large bags, drones, tripods, food, and other restricted items are not allowed inside. Visitors must follow the assigned route and the instructions of site staff.

Read our Machu Picchu Circuits Guide or review the official Machu Picchu circuits and routes.

The standard package includes selected 3-star hotels in Lima, Huacachina, Cusco, and Aguas Calientes. Exact properties depend on availability and will be shown in your booking confirmation.

The Lima-Cusco flight is included in economy class. Airline baggage rules and fees depend on the confirmed carrier and fare.

Take only a small overnight bag to Aguas Calientes. Your main luggage can remain at your Cusco hotel or in TreXperience storage while you travel by train and visit Machu Picchu.

Scheduled flights, Ballestas boats, the Nazca aircraft, trains, and Machu Picchu buses are shared or public services, even when other parts of the package are private.

Weather and the best time for this tour

Lima, Paracas, and Huacachina have a dry coastal climate, but mornings can be cloudy and boat trips may feel cool or windy. The desert is usually warmer during the day and cooler after sunset.

Cusco, the Sacred Valley, and Machu Picchu generally have a drier season from April to October and a wetter season from November to March. Weather can still change quickly in any month.

No season guarantees clear skies, calm seas, or perfect visibility over the Nazca Lines. Flexible expectations and suitable clothing are important.

Frequently Asked Questions About the 7-Day Peru Tour

These answers cover the most common questions about the itinerary, domestic flights, hotels, Nazca Lines flight, coastal activities, altitude, Machu Picchu tickets, meals, and customization.

Is 7 days enough for this Peru itinerary?

Yes, but this is an active and fast-paced itinerary. It is designed for travelers who want to experience Lima, Paracas, Huacachina, the Nazca Lines, Cusco, the Sacred Valley, and Machu Picchu in one week.

Several days include early departures, long transfers, flights, trains, and guided tours. Good organization is essential, which is why TreXperience coordinates the main services as one complete package.

Travelers who prefer a slower pace should consider adding one or two extra nights in Lima, Cusco, or the Sacred Valley.

Which flights are included in the package?

The one-way domestic flight from Lima to Cusco on Day 4 is included in the standard package.

International flights and the final flight from Cusco to Lima or your next destination are not included.

Wait for our reservations team to confirm the recommended arrival and departure times before purchasing your flights.

Which hotels are included?

The standard package includes two nights in selected 3-star hotels in Lima, one night in Huacachina, two nights in Cusco, and one night in Aguas Calientes.

Exact hotels depend on availability for your dates. If a proposed property is unavailable, we will offer a similar hotel in the same category.

Upgrades to 4-star, boutique, 5-star, or luxury hotels can be arranged at an additional cost.

What should I expect during the Nazca Lines flight?

The flight takes place in a small aircraft designed to give passengers views of the geoglyphs from both sides. The pilot may make several turns, so travelers who are sensitive to motion should eat lightly beforehand.

Passengers must present a passport and complete a weight check for aircraft balance. Seat assignments, departure time, aircraft type, and visible figures depend on weather and operational conditions.

Flights may be delayed or rescheduled for safety reasons. The Nazca Lines are protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Are the Ballestas Islands and Huacachina activities safe?

These activities are generally suitable for prepared travelers when operated under local safety rules. The Ballestas boat is subject to sea and port conditions, while the dune buggy is an adventure activity with fast movement over uneven sand.

Follow all instructions, wear the provided safety equipment, keep your seat belt fastened, and tell the guide about any mobility, back, neck, pregnancy, or medical concerns before participating.

A private alternative or modified activity may be possible when requested before confirmation.

Is altitude sickness a concern in Cusco?

Yes. Cusco is located at approximately 3,400 m / 11,155 ft, and altitude can affect anyone regardless of fitness.

Walk slowly, stay hydrated, eat light meals, avoid excess alcohol, and rest when needed. Tell your guide immediately if you experience strong symptoms.

This package does not include a demanding trek, but the Cusco City Tour and Sacred Valley visits involve walking and stairs at altitude. You can also review general altitude advice from the CDC high-altitude travel guide.

Which Machu Picchu circuit is included, and can I add a mountain hike?

We first request Circuit 2, one of the most popular and complete routes. If it is sold out, we will secure the best available route on Circuit 1 or Circuit 3.

You may also request Huayna Picchu Mountain or Machu Picchu Mountain.

Mountain tickets cost extra, are very limited, and must be compatible with the official entry time and return train schedule. Official tickets are controlled through the Ministry of Culture’s Tu Boleto platform.

What meals are included, and can you accommodate special diets?

The package includes daily hotel breakfasts except on the arrival day and a buffet lunch during the Sacred Valley tour.

Other lunches and dinners are not included, giving you the freedom to choose restaurants and explore local food in Lima, Huacachina, Cusco, and Aguas Calientes.

Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, lactose-free, and allergy-related requests can usually be accommodated at the included lunch when reported in advance. Tell us about any serious allergy when booking.

Can solo travelers join, and can the itinerary be customized?

Yes. Solo travelers can reserve the package using the single-traveler rate, subject to availability.

Shared small-group services are a good way to meet other travelers while receiving full logistical support. Private guides and transportation can also be arranged for selected parts of the journey.

You may request different hotels, extra nights, a premium train, an optional Machu Picchu mountain, or extensions to Rainbow Mountain, Humantay Lake, Lake Titicaca, the Inca Trail, or the Amazon.

All changes depend on availability and may affect the final price.
