Travel Information of Peru Grand Journey 19 Days
Altitude Tips (Colca, Puno, Cusco, Rainbow Mountain)
Altitude affects everyone differently. Hydrate, eat light at first, avoid rushing up stairs, and take breaks when needed. Rainbow Mountain is the biggest altitude test, slow and steady wins.
Early Mornings Are Part of the Magic
Ballestas Islands, condors in Colca, Machu Picchu, and Rainbow Mountain all start early for the best conditions, better light, and fewer crowds.
Nazca Lines Flight Depends on Weather
Flights can shift due to wind or visibility. If timing changes, your team manages it and keeps you updated.
Amazon Flights Need Smart Scheduling
Try to arrive in Puerto Maldonado by midday so you don’t miss lodge transfers and afternoon activities. For departure, a noon flight usually works best.
Luggage Strategy
You’ll move between hotels often. A rolling suitcase + a daypack works well. Pack a small overnight bag for Aguas Calientes and keep the rest organized for hotel-to-hotel travel.
Machu Picchu Entry + Optional Hikes
Your Machu Picchu visit includes a guided tour (Circuit 2 when available). Optional hikes like Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain must be booked in advance and depend on availability.
FAQs - Peru Highlights tour 19 days
Is this trip guided every day?
Most key days are guided (Lima, Ballestas/Huacachina, Nazca, Colca, Titicaca, Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu, Rainbow Mountain, and Amazon excursions). You also get free time in Arequipa and Cusco.
Are domestic flights included?
Flights for the Amazon segment are usually not included unless your package specifically says so. You’ll typically book Cusco → Puerto Maldonado and Puerto Maldonado → Lima separately.
How hard is Rainbow Mountain?
It’s not technical, but it’s high altitude, which makes it feel harder. Most travelers can do it with a slow pace and breaks. Horses are often available locally for part of the route (paid directly).
What is the homestay on Amantaní like?
It’s basic but clean—simple rooms, shared culture, and a very warm welcome. It’s one of the most memorable nights for many travelers.
Will I see condors in Colca Canyon?
Condors are common at Cruz del Cóndor, but wildlife is never 100% guaranteed. Early morning gives you the best chance
What train is used for Machu Picchu?
This itinerary uses the Expedition train, as scheduled.
Which Machu Picchu circuit do we visit?
The plan is usually Circuit 2 (the most complete). If it’s sold out, the best available alternative (Circuit 1 or 3) is used.

Yes when guided properly. You can choose how adventurous you want to be. Most people love it because it’s fun and beginner-friendly.
What should I expect in the Amazon?
Warm, humid weather, lots of nature sounds, and guided wildlife experiences by day and at night. Bring repellent, long sleeves, and quick-dry clothes.
Can I upgrade hotels?
In many cities, yes. Ask for upgrade options and we’ll share what’s available for your dates
