The World Organization of Equestrian Tourism (OMTE) has named Peru the "Equestrian Tourism Destination of 2025," highlighting the country’s potential to offer unforgettable horseback riding experiences and nature-based tourism.
Jorge Navarro Bernal, president of the Cultural Association of the Peruvian Paso Horse and OMTE delegate in Peru, emphasized that this recognition honors Peru’s rich equestrian traditions, especially the Peruvian Paso Horse, declared a National Cultural Heritage. He also highlighted the significance of other native breeds such as the Morochuco, Chumbivilcano, and Andean Horse, all renowned internationally for their endurance and grace.
From February 17 to 21, Peru will host José Sererols, president of OMTE, who will travel from Spain to certify tourism companies involved in the equestrian sector, including hotels, ranches, and horseback tour operators. This international certification will be crucial in attracting tourists and equestrian enthusiasts from around the world, further establishing Peru as a must-visit destination for nature and adventure tourism.
Navarro also announced the Third World Championship of the Peruvian Paso Horse, set for October 4-5, with delegations from 12 countries showcasing the best of this iconic breed and solidifying Peru’s status as a global leader in equestrian tourism.
This recognition encourages Peru’s tourism sector to diversify its offerings, promote activities that preserve cultural traditions, and boost the local economy by enhancing unique equestrian routes — from the northern beaches to the breathtaking Andean landscapes.
Peru invites the world to discover its essence on horseback
