Cusco airport extends operations to 22 hours to make your trip easier

From December 1, the Cusco Airport Teniente Alejandro Velasco Astete International has expanded its schedule so it can welcome flights almost around the clock. Its operations now run from 4:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. the following day (local time), giving you much more flexibility for early arrivals, late departures, and tight connections through Lima or other cities.

This change comes after an agreement between the Peruvian Corporation of Airports and Commercial Aviation (Corpac) and LATAM Airlines Peru, which will be the first airline to use the extended hours with additional flights. Other airlines are expected to follow, especially during high season, when demand for flights to the region surges as thousands of visitors arrive to explore Cusco, the Sacred Valley, and Machu Picchu.

Longer operating hours mean more choices when you travel to Cusco. You’ll have a wider range of departure and arrival times, making it easier to line up your domestic flight with long‑haul international routes into Lima, reduce long layovers, and choose times that fit your itinerary, whether you prefer to land at dawn and head straight to your hotel or depart late at night after a full day of sightseeing.

Because the Cusco airport is located only about 10–15 minutes from the historic center by taxi or private transfer, early‑morning or late‑night flights can be a convenient option, especially if you want to avoid daytime traffic and make the most of your time in the city.

Travel to Cusco: Practical tips for flying in and out

To make your journey smoother, keep these quick tips in mind:

  • Arrive early: Aim to be at the airport at least 2 hours before domestic flights and 3 hours before international departures. During high season (June–August and holiday periods), queues can be longer, so consider adding extra time.
  • Plan around altitude: Cusco sits at about 3,310 meters above sea level. Give yourself time to acclimatize, drink plenty of water, and avoid heavy meals or intense physical activity right after landing.
  • Choose your flight time wisely: Morning flights during the dry season (May–October) are usually more punctual, while those in the rainy season can be affected by clouds and fog.
  • Pre‑book transfers: Arrange a trusted taxi or private transfer in advance so you can leave the terminal quickly and safely, especially if you arrive very early or very late.
  • Keep documents handy: Have your passport, boarding pass, and any tour confirmations ready, as security and check‑in queues can build up during peak hours.
