Arequipa prepares to welcome 300,000 tourists this summer

Peru's Arequipa region is gearing up for a summer season that expects to draw over 300,000 tourists. With its stunning beaches and well-prepared infrastructure, the region aims to create a significant economic impact, particularly in popular destinations like Camaná and Mollendo.

According to Jorge Meza, Regional Manager of Foreign Trade and Tourism, year-end celebrations and the first two months of 2025 will bring visitors to the 25 beaches across the provinces of Camaná, Islay, and Caravelí. These beaches feature tourist-ready amenities, including lodging, restaurants, and the necessary health certifications to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.

Ensuring safety and hygiene

Local authorities have taken several steps to provide visitors with security and hygiene standards. Key measures include:

  • Islay Province: The municipality has installed 42 surveillance cameras and monitors beach commerce to maintain order and cleanliness.
  • Camaná and Caravelí: Security teams will patrol the main beaches, enhancing safety for both tourists and locals.

Beyond its beaches, Arequipa offers a diverse range of activities and destinations:

  • Coastal Peruvian gastronomy: Visitors can savor traditional seafood dishes such as chupe de camarones, ceviche, and parihuela in local restaurants.
