Sacsayhuaman Cleanup Campaign: TreXperience’s Environmental Commitment

The cleanup campaign was carried out in partnership with the Provincial Municipality of Cusco, the Recicla Cusco program, and the Environmental Management Office. During the activity, participants covered approximately 1.9 miles or 3 km, collecting waste and helping care for one of Cusco's most important archaeological sites.

This initiative brought together volunteers, public officials, and TreXperience team members with the same purpose: to keep Sacsayhuaman clean and encourage greater responsibility for the natural and cultural spaces that are part of our city's heritage.

A Cleanup Day at Sacsayhuaman in Cusco

The day began early with talks on the importance of environmental care and protecting our heritage. Participants then received waste collection bags and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including masks and gloves, to help keep everyone safe.

During the campaign, participants covered approximately 3 km through different areas of Sacsayhuaman, collecting solid waste found along the route and in nearby areas.

The joint effort made it possible to cover a wider area while reinforcing the importance of proper waste management in places that welcome local residents, travelers, and tourists from around the world throughout the year.

Cleaning these spaces is not only about removing waste. It also means protecting the park's cultural and natural landscape, which is home to a variety of Andean birds and wildlife.

Our Commitment to the Environment

Responsible Tourism to Protect Our Heritage

The Sacsayhuaman Archaeological Park is much more than a stop on a tour in Cusco. Its archaeological structures, history, and landscape make it an important part of our identity as Peruvians and as people of Cusco. 

According to Peru's Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism, the Monumental Area of Sacsayhuaman was the third most visited tourist attraction in Peru in 2025.

Preserving places like this requires the participation of public institutions, tourism companies, local communities, residents, and visitors.

Small Actions That Make a Difference

Travelers can also help care for Cusco and Peru during their visit:

• Carry your waste with you until you find a suitable place to dispose of it.
• Use a reusable water bottle whenever possible.
• Reduce your use of single-use plastics.
• Stay on authorized trails and within designated areas.
• Do not remove stones, plants, archaeological artifacts, or any other items from the site.
• Respect signs, local regulations, and the instructions of guides and park rangers.
• Try to leave every place as clean as you found it.

Responsible travel does not require complicated actions. It begins with respecting the places we visit and being more aware of the impact each of us can have.

The cleanup campaign at Sacsayhuaman showed what can be achieved when different institutions and people work toward the same goal.
