The temple of Qoricancha (Temple of the Sun), the main religious church for the Incas, will be the scenery for a special ceremony organized by the EMUFEC this March 28th at 06:00 pm. In it, the Cusco municipal company will announce the main activities to be held throughout June in honor of the ancient capital of the Inca Empire, Cusco. Qoricancha, as a vestige of integration between the ancient world (Incas architecture) and the new one (Spanish architecture) will represent the conjunction of ancient and revalued festivities such as the Inti Raymi, with current festivities such as the festivities of Cusco. Among them, we can mention concerts, gastronomic festivals, artistic exhibitions, and many others.

Inti Raimy festivity

Between them, we can remark on the celebration of Inti Raymi on June 24th. Inti Raymi is a traditional ceremony held in the city of Cusco to honor the Sun, one of the main deities in the Inca worldview. The festival recreates this ancient Inca ritual across three main locations of the current Cusco: Qoricancha (current Santo Domingo convent), the Main Square, and the Sacsayhuaman esplanade (Rests of a main Inca fortress).

With music, dances, and traditional clothing, many dancers, actors, actresses, and even Cusco native volunteers develop dances choreographed by ancient Inca rituals. Of course, thousands, between locals and tourists, gather to witness this powerful representation filled with symbolism and deep respect for Andean heritage.

Cusco festivities

The other festivities and celebrations will be held throughout the month of June with parades, dances, music, artistic expressions, and cultural activities that highlight the Andean identity. Among the most awaited events is also the parade of allegories in the Plaza de Arma, where student delegations of the city perform typical dances of the Andean region, in a contest full of joy and color. Thus, Cusco becomes a meeting point for locals and visitors who come to experience the energy and pride of a city that celebrates its roots.
