The initiative, spearheaded by the General Office of Statistics and Information and Communication Technologies and the Computing and Technology Functional Area of the Decentralized Directorate of Culture of Cusco, has placed 5 video surveillance cameras at strategic points within the Machu Picchu citadel.

As of March 20th this year, the cameras are located at the entrance and exit of the Llaqta (city) of Machu Picchu, as well as at the entrance of the Machu Picchu Pueblo Cultural Center, near the ticket office and in the auditorium where visitors purchase their tickets to the citadel in person.

This measure aims to provide greater security to the thousands of tourists who visit the site each year and preserve the integrity of one of Peru's and the world's most important cultural treasures. Implementing this surveillance system marks a significant step forward in protecting cultural and archaeological heritage, ensuring that Machu Picchu remains a safe and accessible tourist destination for future generations.

With the installation of surveillance cameras at Machu Picchu, Peru continues to demonstrate its commitment to preserving its historical legacy, inviting the world to explore its wonders with confidence and respect.
