Get Ready for Your Adventure: Packing, Training, and Arriving in Cusco

Preparing well is the first step to an incredible trail experience. To ensure you’re comfortable, confident, and ready to go, here’s a quick guide on packing essentials, simple training tips, and what to expect when you arrive in Cusco.

Packing Essentials: Bring the Right Gear for Any Weather

To fully enjoy your trek, having the right gear is key. Here are some basics to bring along:

Daypack: A small daypack (around 25L) is perfect for carrying water, snacks, and anything else you’ll need on the trail each day.

Water Storage: Staying hydrated is super important, so bring a Camelbak or water bottle to hold 2-3 liters of water.

Weather Protection: Cusco’s weather can change fast. Pack a rain jacket, rain pants, and warm layers so you’re ready for anything.

Sleeping Bag: A cozy sleeping bag makes all the difference. If you don’t have one, you can rent a high-quality sleeping bag from us (see below).

Rentals for Extra Gear

We offer rentals to make packing a breeze. If you need a sleeping bag, trekking poles, or an inflatable mattress, we’ve got you covered. Here’s how you can pay for rentals:

Cash: We accept Peruvian Soles, USD, or a mix of currencies (no torn bills, please).

Credit Card: Visa is accepted with a 5.5% merchant fee.

Online Payment: Want to pay ahead? Just let us know, and we’ll send you a payment link.

Stay Dry and Comfortable with Rain Gear

Cusco's weather can be unpredictable, with a chance of rain at any time. We provide a rain poncho and daypack cover to keep you dry, but it’s also a good idea to bring a waterproof jacket, pants, and gloves. A little extra rain protection goes a long way!

Pack Your Duffel Bag for Easy Carrying

To make things easy, we’ll give you a duffel bag that our porters will carry for you. Here’s what to know:

Weight Limit: Your duffel bag can hold up to 7 kg, including your sleeping bag and any rented gear.

Pack Smart: Use plastic bags to keep things organized and dry, especially if you’re carrying electronics or valuables.

Training Tips: Get Trail-Ready with Simple Exercises

A bit of prep can help you feel stronger and more comfortable on the trail. Here are a few tips:

Cardio: Get moving with regular walks, hikes, or jogs a few times a week. Aim for about an hour of walking or hiking on different types of ground.

Strength: Simple leg exercises, like lunges and squats, are great for building up stability and endurance.

Practice with Your Pack: Try carrying a packed daypack on hikes to get used to the weight.

Arrive in Cusco Early to Get Acclimated

To adjust to the altitude and get into the spirit of adventure, we recommend arriving in Cusco at least two days before your trek. This time helps you acclimate, relax, and explore the beautiful city before you hit the trail.

Pre-Tour Briefing: Getting Ready for Your Big Adventure

The evening before your trek, we’ll meet to make sure you’re all set for the journey ahead! This pre-tour briefing is a great chance to go over the plan, clear up any last-minute details, and meet your guides and fellow travelers who’ll be sharing this adventure with you. Here’s everything you need to know:

To make sure everything goes smoothly, please complete any remaining balance at least 48 hours before your trek. You can pay:

By Credit Card: A 5.5% fee applies.

At the Briefing: Final Preparations

This meeting is all about getting you prepared and answering any last questions. Here’s what we’ll cover:

Passport Check: Bring your original passport, which needs to be valid for at least six months after your travel dates.

Duffle Bags: You’ll receive a duffle bag for the trek, which our porters will carry for you.

Rentals and Extras: Do you need a sleeping bag or trekking poles? Now is the time to let us know so we can arrange them.
